Pyg – Caustic Folk

Pyg – Caustic Folk

The distilled, concentrated essence of Pyg is a potent substance indeed. In its purest form, experienced first hand, at close proximity, it catalyses some of the most diverse and interesting range of behaviours imaginable in the homo sapien. Exposure to the sonic power contained within this tight chemical unit has caused whoops and screams of sheer delight from these humans ( – and other mammals). Even the plants and very minerals themselves, when placed in close proximity to such an awesome force, register high levels of happiness when the correct state-of-the-art testing equipment is applied. The total effect of the vibrations thus produced by unleashing the power of Pyg leads to wild gyrations of the body en masse and much quaffing of ale, often causing the ale to run dry.

This exotic, erotic and sometimes downright rude sound comes from the cunning combination of elements of pure sonic power. The usual ingredients of drums, bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and voices are common and effective elements indeed. The addition of spices such as bazouki, balalaika, fiddle and dulcimer add a twist and a tang that is thoroughly refreshing and invigorating. As if that were not enough, there are even special unique and quirky instruments created by the fair trotters of one clever pyg in his own worksty.

Assuming that your venue can withstand such a force is perilous and not something to be undertaken lightly, as the basic purity of Pyg’s incredible potency has rocked many a house to its very foundations. Providing you are certain that no local strategic arms limitations treaties will be violated and your bars are fully prepared to deal with the inevitable onslaught of ale-thirsty revellers, the force known as Pyg can be summoned to appear at your convenience by contacting any of the retarding agencies found on the contacts page (for reasons of your personal security, you understand.)

Tired of the same old folk rock? Fairport clones, Steeleye copyists, Levellers rip-offs, plagiarism so rampant it breaks your heart…?

How about something a bit left of centre, against the tide, something that digs its own paths?

What you need is an original blend of searing melodies, stomping rhythms and some “bloody good songwriting”.

Pyg are a fourpiece from Devon with occasional extra members who have evolved from sheer obsession. Formerly known as The Wise Anticlocks, they made their Glastonbury debut in the mudfest that was 1997.

Chomping their inimitable way through an original set that can’t fail to jolt any beleaguered audience into a frenzy are acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, drums, fiddle, bazouki, dulcimer, balalaika and various other instruments, giving you a band that thrives on live performance.
