The Bastard Sons of Dennis

The Bastard Sons of Dennis are a duo which features Q. Wim Lijkkes, who plays acoustic guitar and sings, and Yuri Nation, who plays acoustic guitar and grunts. However, when they are performing Blue Oyster Cult covers, they are replaced by BOC specialists Derek Broom, who plays acoustic guitar and sings, and Chuck Palmer, who plays acoustic guitar and grunts. They have been described as “arguably among the finest acoustic Blue Oyster Cult cover duos in the EX4 area (excluding Pinhoe).”

Besides playing an extensive selection of Blue Oyster Cult covers, they also perform original songs which are amusing, touching and groovetastic in equal measures. Both Lijkkes and Nation are acclaimed virtuosos and have enjoyed lengthy careers in the music industry with many other acts.

After a performance at Exeter’s Fuel Cafe, Greg – the owner of the venue – said that The Bastard Sons of Dennis “always fail to disappoint” and a punter named Alex (from Pinhoe) added that they were “not bad”.

The Bastard Sons of Dennis performed many times at live music venues or open mic nights in and around Exeter in the UK. They also became familiar across the globe to members of hardcore Blue Oyster Cult fan and fanatic groups for all the wonderful renditions of BOC’s creations they played with such style, energy and power.

Shortly before the great Wud Records Brexodus, when we became brefugees living on the European mainland, we began recording a new EP of original songs by The Bastard Sons of Dennis. We will keep you updated on the progress of the EP in our News service and on Twitter. Progress is likely to be slow because only Yuri and Chuck moved with us. Q.Wim and Derek remained in England for a couple of years after the rest of us emigrated, then escaped to Spain.

We do not believe this is the end of the road for our gruesome twosome. It just means things have taken on a new and more technically challenging logistical dimension. A possible future has been discussed involving Zoom, Skype and DropBox.
