BSoD + D²: Cruelty to Blues

‘Cruelty to Blues’ is an anagram, and an album of some of Blue Öyster Cult’s classic deep cuts. The albums ‘Subtle Curly Toe’ and ‘Obey Cutler Lust’ are possibilites, if a touch unlikely, due to Derek and Chuck living in different countries by now.

Dave Danielli, also known as D², has loved the music of Blue Öyster Cult for longer than we have known him. When he heard the Cosy Lube Turtle album by The Bastard Sons of Dennis, he felt compelled to pick up his bass guitar and make some bass parts for what had already been made.

Dave got in touch with us and sent a couple of his bass parts, and we loved what he had done. He proceeded to send us bass guitar parts for all of the songs on the Cosy Lube Turtle album.

Once the new bass parts were integrated into the mix, we gave the songs a few more tweaks and this is the result – Cruelty to Blues!

Dave has already appeared on several Wud Records recordings over the years, such as Flicker’s album At Least 1000 Words. He was also the bass player in The Ug Brothers. Not only that, Dave has an extensive repertoire elsewhere as a session bass player, drummer and producer.

The Bastard Sons of Dennis have been compared to Tenacious D, and have been described thusly:

‘Arguably among the finest acoustic Blue Öyster Cult cover duos in the EX4 area (excluding Pinhoe).’ – Amy, Rob, Steve, Ellie.

‘They always fail to disappoint.’ – Greg, owner of the Fuel Cafe, Exeter.

Cruelty to Blues represents around half of all the Blue Öyster Cult songs that The Bastard Sons of Dennis covered. Perhaps someday the others will appear?
